MINDARC

Your information and MindArc: the short version

If you use MindArc through your school, this page is for you. It is short on purpose. The full version for adults is at mindarc.co.uk/privacy.

What MindArc is. MindArc is a maths app your school is trying out. It gives you short lessons, asks how confident you feel, and gives you extra practice on the bits you find hard.

What MindArc knows about you. Not your name. Your school gives you a code, like “Student 7”, and that is all MindArc sees. Only your school knows which code is yours.

What MindArc keeps. Which lessons you do, which answers you get right or wrong, how many tries you take, how confident you say you are, the points you earn, and when you use the app. That is it. No name, no birthday, no photo, no messages, no email.

What MindArc does with it. It uses it to give you the right lesson next. Separately, if your parent or carer has agreed, MindArc looks at everyone’s results together, as a group, to see if the app is helping. Nobody outside your school can tell which results are yours.

What MindArc never does. It never shows your results to other students. It never uses your information for adverts. It never sells it. It does not use artificial intelligence, and it does not use your information to train one. It never contacts your parents or carers directly.

On your device. The app keeps you signed in with one small cookie, and remembers which questions you got wrong so it can offer them again. That stays on the device you are using. If you use a shared computer, sign out when you finish.

Where it is kept, and who can see it. On a computer in the UK. The people who look after the app work from India and can reach that computer to fix things. They have signed rules about what they can and cannot do, and they never see your name either.

How long it is kept. The app information is deleted 60 days after the pilot finishes. The group research information, still without your name, is kept for up to 3 years and then deleted.

Your rights. You can ask to see what MindArc has about you. You can ask for it to be deleted. You do not need to give a reason, and it will not affect anything else at school. To do either, tell a teacher, or your parent or carer, and the school will tell MindArc which code is yours. It will be deleted, not just hidden.

If something goes wrong. If you ever see something in the app that looks like someone else’s information, or something that worries you, tell a teacher straight away.

If you are not happy. Tell a teacher or your parent or carer first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner, the UK’s information watchdog, at ico.org.uk. The full grown-up version of this notice is at mindarc.co.uk/privacy.

Who to ask. Your teacher first. Or your parent or carer can email MindArc at support@mindarc.co.uk.
